She reminds me of the glory days of alt-rock-pop female singers in the 90's. Listen to more of her stuff here.

Doesn't have the same fire as the original, but got to give her credit for trying.

2012 Brit Award Nominee - Emeli Sande
Emeli Sande is the 2012 Critics Choice Winner! At such a young age Sande has already made a big splash on the scene with songs like: "Tinie Tempah (Let Go), Professor Green (Kids That Love To Dance), Tinchy Stryder (Let It Rain), Chipmunk (Diamond Rings), Wiley (Never Be Your Woman)." My favorite of which is her collab with Tinie Tempah on "Let Go," it stays on repeat when I play it. Get familiar, if you aren't already.

New Music - K'Naan ft. Nelly Furtado "Is Anybody Out There"
I love them both, but I have a feeling that if it was Tinie Tempah and Ellie Goulding or Drake and Katy Perry that this song would take off. I'm not saying it won't but I won't be surprised if it doesn't.

Album Release - Jessie Baylin "Little Spark"
Jessie Baylin's new album "Little Spark," released yesterday, is subtle and sweet, with a retro folk feel. It transports you back to the time period when music was about story telling with a melody. Sort of a Karen Carpenter/Zoey Deschanel hybrid in sound and vocals, Baylin's voice soothes and gently rocks you into a peaceful state. Above is her video for lead track "Hurry Hurry," which was directed by the little known actor Scarlett Johansson.

2012 Brit Award Nominee - Anna Calvi
Anna Calvi is nominated for the British Breakthrough Act. She describes her debut album as
" a record about the internal forces in life which are out of your control and can take you over, and how you survive them. It explores intimacy, passion and loneliness. There is an element of darkness to the record but there is also a sense of hope… This album is the culmination of my whole life up until now."

Album Review - Daniel Johnson "Extracolor"
Daniel Johnson's new album "Extracolor" is closer to the album I wish Patrick Stump put out. It is a combination of many styles and genres; creating many hits and few misses. I must admit, on first listen I thought there were far more misses. But the second, more focused listen, made me understand the uniqueness of this album. Is it going to be the stand out album of 2012, probably not. Does it deserve attention for not being another dub step, electronica, dance floor album, YES. Take a break from Gaga and Perry and try something new.
Stand out tracks: Zhivago, I Believe, and Powerlines

Coachella Artist - Afrojack "Take Over Control"
From time to time I like to profile artists who are nominees for awards or festivals from time to time. So I am going to go through the Coachella line up alphabetically. Today, Afrojack. The young Dutch DJ is blowing up, having worked on/with tracks for David Guetta, Beyonce, Pitbull, and several remixes. His current track "Take Over Control," above, is a certified club hit. He is definitely going to get people dancing at Coachella.

Someone please send me on an an inclusive trip to Coachella. I will reward you with kindness!

Foreign Friday - Sneakbo & Stylo G "Call Me a Naija"
Sneakbo's remix of Stylo G's "Call Me a Yardie" is a club banger for sure. I certainly want to pull out my green/white/green when I hear it. It's an excellent example of the blending of Nigerian and Jamaican talent.

New Music - Jason Mraz "I Won't Give Up"
Mr. A-Z could easily become this generation's James Taylor. Though this will probably not be anywhere near as big as "I'm Yours," it is still a good tune. I like the slight country twinge to it.
