Foreign Friday: Tinie Tempah

Tinie Tempah - Frisky from Tim Brown on Vimeo.
The British born mc, full name Patrick Opadi Yodu Okogwu, has been making waves for the past couple of years. Most recently he is featured on Willow Smith's "Whip My Hair" official remix. His debut album, Disc-Overy, debuted at #1 last October in the UK. Tempah mixes mostly hip hop, house, and dance to make some of the most infectious music out there. But it isn't just cookie cutter like Ke$ha and other artists out there making dance music today. There is something articulate about the production of his music; like the producer used equations to make the beat.
#1 singles "Pass Out" and "Written in the Stars" demonstrate that Tempah has mainstream appeal; reminding me of B.O.B's current success. Unfortunately, that usually means people are focusing on the beat and not the lyrics. Which honestly does overpower him on many of the tracks. But he has potential to beat the sophomore slump that most can't
