Foreign Fridays

Being a big fan of blue-eyed soul, this weeks Foreign Friday is Lylit. According to her Facebook profile she is "Blonde-haired. Blue-eyed. Statuesque physique. Foreign pedigree."  Hailing from Austria, Lylit is filling my open position of new blue-eyed soul obsession.  A position once held by Adele, Duffy, Amy Winehouse, Robin Thicke, and Jon B.  I have only heard new single, The Plan, which is available on iTunes now as a discovery download, but I am anticipating great things from this 25 year old stunner. Get to know Lylit above.

Let's Have A Toast

It's Thursday again, so I am obligated to discuss the Hot 100 billboard chart.  Number one for the second week in a row is Far East Movement's Like A G6. I'm not surprised at all by this, or that Rihanna is number three this week with Only Girl(In The World).  Only Girl is a total club banger; I certainly let loose when it came on.  I am surprised that Pink's Raise Your Glass is already number ten. Not because the song isn't good, which it is, just because in past years it has taken America a little bit longer to figure out how impressive Pink is.  And with all the fuss over Fuck You, sorry kids, Cee Lo Green's kiss off song has only peaked at number seventeen.  This is stupid to me, because not only is the song funny, it is a great song.

Over on the Hot 200 the only album I care about is Kings of Leon's Come Around Sundown.  I still haven't got the chance to listen to their new album yet, but I will and I hope to give it a great review.  Their last albums have blown me away, and they sound incredible live.  Well, they debut at number two this week, right behind Sugarland's The Incredible Machine.  I can't say I am a huge Sugarland fan, but I do like some of their songs.  I think both deserve to debut so high on the charts. Kudos to KOL for their highest sales week and chart peak to date.  If you haven't seen them live, get your tickets as soon as they go on sale.  That is if you like that sort of thing.

Rally To Restore Sanity/Fear

Saturday is/are the big rally/rallies with Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, and of course The Roots are the backing band.  Questlove, drummer for The Roots, said so himself on his twitter earlier today.  I have never had to pay to see The Roots in DC cause they are always here for some outdoor festival of some sort.  I have paid to see Questlove dj at the 9:30 Club, so I think it balances out.

I am still trying to decide if I am going to go or not.  It sounds like it will be fun, but I don't know if it is worth the lack of sleep before I go to work that night.  The schedule was just leaked, and there will be several musical 'special guest' so I might have to suck it up and go.  With all the hype about the rally/rallies I don't think I can afford to be lazy.  I don't want to miss the biggest event of the year.

Rocky Horror Glee Show

First of all John Stamos is a sexy son of a gun, and I would have loved to see him as Frankfurter. Perez Hilton actually got a recording of him singing one of Frankfurter's songs, and it was pretty good.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of my favorite movies of all time so I am not going to hold any punches when it comes to critiquing this episode of Glee.

Fine Wine School(cause old school sounds insulting)

No one has a voice like Ms. Patti, aka Patti Labelle.  Two of my favorite songs of all time are by the glamorous one herself.  If I could carry a tune, I would sing this song at every Karaoke event I could.  I would still have stage fright so I probably wouldn't do that actually, but you get what I mean.

When I met her a couple of years ago, I was so nervous she was looking at me like I had half a face or something.  No offense to her, but with all the make up she had on, she looked like she had had a stroke recently.  It didn't matter cause she put on a hell of a show, stroke or no stroke.

If you haven't heard If You Only Knew, get schooled above.

Because It's Kanye

I watched this video, not necessarily because I had been anticipating it, but because its just one of those things you feel like you have to do. Like watching Double Rainbow or Chocolate Rain.

One day I hope to be able to make a forty minute music video/movie just because I can. Most people who get to this status have proved that they are more than just a singer/rapper, they are entertainers. I think Kanye has proven that. So I have to ask, are you not entertained?

My Heart

There is no one who lights my fire like this man.  One of my friends told me that he feels bad for guys who like me because I will never love them as much as I love my husband JT.  I did not deny or disagree with his comment.  It is sad but true. Anyone who knows me knows I am Mrs. Timberlake. I can go on forever about the magnificence that is Justin Randall Timberlake, but I will save that for another day. For now enjoy some of his brilliance above.

Foreign Fridays

Over on Twitter Friday is Follow Friday; people suggest who they think others should follow. Here Friday is Foreign Friday. I will suggest what foreign artist, dj, website, e.t.c you should check out. Today's Foreign Friday goes out to.......Okay Africa

A spin off of The Roots okayplayer.com, okayafrica is a great website to find out about your favorite African artists.  Or if you don't know any African artists, this is where you should go to discover them.  They have profiles and music from all across the continent; including Nigeria, Congo, South Africa, and many more. Do yourself a favor and peruse the site, you are bound to find something you like.  Nneka seems to be pride and joy for both okayplayer and okayafrica, so take a second to listen to her.

Happy Friday!

I'm Hot And Your Not

Five points go to anyone who knows where the title of this post is from.

Anywho, today is Thursday and to me that means the billboard charts have been updated.  If you do not care who is number one on the Hot 100, the singles chart, this week or in the top ten, than this post is not for you.  I've been following chart statuses for years now.  I love to see if someone, lets say Taylor Swift, is still the golden child or if middle America has moved on yet like they did with every other young country star.  Remember Billy Gilman....yeah, I didn't think so.  It's interesting to see the songs I thought would be sure fire hits not make it higher than number twenty one. While other, boring, unimaginative, uninspired, garbage makes it into the top ten, or even number one.  I'm looking at you Nelly; Just A Dream has no business being number three. I do agree with the current #1, Like A G6 by Far East Movement is pretty darn catchy and listening to some of their other singles, this might not be their only number one hit.

Smooth As Silk.org

That Good Music
This mix is one of the reasons I want to get into music. To make something this good is so inspiring to me. Mad props, as the kids like to say. Okay, nobody says that anymore, but he deserves it.

Thanks to www.iamdonaldglover.com for posting it.

Sometimes It's Good To Be Childish

Because you can't just be talented in one field nowadays, my favorite rapper entertainer right now is Childish Gambino.  You might know him better as Donald Glover, or the black kid on Community, or the black kid of Derrick Comedy, or the black kid that used to write for 30 Rock.  I like him best as Gambino, but like he says he is "gifted in another field, and another field, and another field."

For some, Gambino's voice maybe annoying, and he himself brings it up in some of his songs.  But to me it is his voice, along with his honesty and creativity, that sets him apart.  It would be easy for me to compare him to Drake and Kanye West, but that wouldn't be fair.  To be honest, he is a bit of the best qualities of the rappers combined, but at the same time he is so much more.  He is the indie kids dream rapper; one of their own spitting 16 bars over their favorite indie bands songs. Including Vampire Weekend and Sleigh Bells. Above is a snippet of him performing at Bowery Ballroom in NYC. Below is his cover of Drake's Over. If you like it, you can go to http://www.childishgambino.blogspot.com/ and download his mixtapes for, wait for it(I love Barney Stinson),..... FREE!
