Why Hip Hop Should Get More Childish

With amazingly witty lyrics, that can take two or more listens to really get, Childish Gambino is finally starting to get some of the recognition he deserves.

Because you can't just be talented in one field nowadays, Donald Glover, former writer for 30 Rock, better known as Troy on Community, and one third of Derrick Comedy, continues to prove in his music that he feels like he has something to prove. In a way he does.

Going from what you are known and loved for to something no one expects of you can be extremely difficult and foolish. Just ask every famous basketball player who wanted to become a rapper. And even if you do crossover, there will always be those who don't appreciate it; i.e Justin Timberlake pursuing acting.

So why would Glover risk the embarassment, heckling, and possible career suicide? Because like Gambino says in one of his songs ", he is gifted in another field, and another field, and another field." He actually is a talented rapper, with the wit of Lil' Wayne, creativity of Kanye West, honesty of Eminem, and the appeal of Drake.

New Music - Jason Mraz "The World As I See It"

Jason Mraz, one of the most slept on artists out, avocado farmer, number 2 person I think should get a haircut, has new music out. "The World As I See It" will be the theme for the "In Search of Incredible" campaign. The track has a "It Never Rains In Southern California" feel. Very Adult Top 40 material; welcome back Mr. A-Z

New Music - Childish Gambino "Bonfire"

Bonfire by Childish Gambino
It is standard Gambino, i.e better than what you hear on the radio. But, it is not the best he's put out; the track sounds a little recycled. Nevertheless, I still can't wait to go to see his show again. Check his tour dates here.

New Discovery - The Drums

The Drums - Money by WorkItMedia
I've known of The Drums for a bit, but I hadn't listened to their stuff. Portamento, their new album, is like a mellower Kooks album. For those of you who like to know the meaning behind songs, there is a commentary version of the album. The band gives a little commentary on each song. I'm not over the moon about the album, but it is a nice listen while getting my work done. If Veronica Mars was still on the air, I will always be bitter about it getting cancelled, I could see some of the tracks being on an episode.
Stand out tracks: "If He Likes It Let Him Do It," "Money," "Days," and "In the Cold."
You can listen to the album here...if you have Spotify, which you should have anyway if you don't.
