Local Flavor - Carolyn Malachi

DC native and multi-threat, Carolyn Malachi was nominated for a 2011 Grammy in the Best Urban Alternative Performance for her single "Orion;" which I love. She blends spoken word, R&B, jazz, and a bit of pop to create that eyes half open, head nodding music that many crave but few attempt to produce nowadays. With jazz in her blood, her great grandfather
was jazz-pianist John Malachi, she knows just what to do with her voice to emphasize the music. I would love to see her and Jill Scott do a show together. Catch her in DC at the Wardman Marriot Hotel on 02/19 and the Smithsonian Museum of African Art on 03/24. Check out her other show dates on her site, carolynmalachi.com.
